Barksters Dog Treats

Barksters dog treats scored big with my canine taste testers.

Isabel Garcia

With the current trends toward "all-natural" and "made in the USA" products, you can feel good about buying Barksters Krisps dog treats because they meet both of those criteria. But the main consideration for any dog or puppy treat is just how good it tastes, and fortunately Barksters score high marks in that category, too.

Crispy, Low-Cal Dog Treats

Barksters Krisps are light, crispy dog treats made with liver, chicken, beef, and other wholesome ingredients that follow the trend of goodies with specific benefits. You can get varieties like brown rice, alfalfa, and sweet potato, each of which has a healthy effect. For example, the sweet potato treats are rich in antioxidants like vitamins A and C, while brown rice is good for digestion and lowering cholesterol levels, and alfalfa is a natural breath freshener. Overall, these treats are also low in fat.

Barksters also have the advantage of containing only 12 calories per treat. Low-calorie goodies let you reward your dog more frequently without causing him to pack on extra pounds. Their air-puffed textures reminds me a bit of the old whipped candy bars that make you feel satisfied while actually eating less.

Loving Pets

Barksters are completely natural, with no additives or preservatives, and they contain no wheat or gluten. All of the ingredients used in these treats are grown in the United States, which supports American farmers. The treats themselves are also made in the USA and tested regularly for chemical or bacterial contamination. This is a particularly important step in light of the many pet food recalls in past months and years, most of which center on ingredients or manufacturing processes in other countries.

Taste Test Results

Barksters dog treats sound good on paper, but I wondered how they would hold up to a real-world taste test. A healthy, all-natural dog product is only beneficial if canines will actually eat it.

Barksters look appealing, at least to human eyes. They remind me of some sort of crispy human snack, and ingredients like brown rice and sweet potatoes make them sound quite appealing. They feel lighter than many other snacks, which also have me a "healthier" impression.

I use several dogs of different sizes, breeds, and ages for my taste tests. I tried various varieties of Barksters with the different pooches, and the reaction was always the same. They all loved this taste new goodie. There were no palatability problems whatsoever.

The dogs' enthusiasm for Barksters showed that these treats make good training rewards. They go a longer way than smaller, denser treats, and the fact that they're lower in calories means you can hand out more without worrying so much about your dog's weight. That trait also makes them a good choice for owners of obese pooches who still want to shower their pets with some snacks.

One Size Fits All

Barksters Krisps are appropriate treats for just about any size or breed of canine. They're large enough for bigger dogs, but they're light and easy to chew, making then appropriate for smaller pooches as well. You can easily break them into smaller pieces, if needed, to make them easier to eat for miniature dogs or older pets.

It's possible that there's a fussy dog out there somewhere, perhaps a canine cousin to Morris the Cat, who wouldn't like Barksters Krisps, but I can vouch for the fact that they have wide appeal. It's worth picking up a bag and trying them out with your dog. It's likely you'll discover that this yummy but low-calorie treat is a favorite.
